Home / Legacy Dynamics / CRM
Your CRM is more than a database. It contains customer relationships, sales processes, service history and business knowledge.
Modernization provides an opportunity to improve the underlying customer application architecture while retaining the information and processes that remain valuable.

Older Dynamics CRM versions have reached the end of their Microsoft support lifecycles. For example, Dynamics CRM 2016 reached the end of extended support on January 13, 2026.

Review sales, customer service and relationship-management processes against current Dynamics 365 capabilities.

Assess custom entities, workflows, plugins, JavaScript and other custom solutions before migration.

Organizations using supported Dynamics CRM / Dynamics 365 on-premises versions can evaluate migration to Dynamics 365 online.

Modernize connections between CRM, ERP, Microsoft 365, Power Platform and other business applications.

Create a foundation for Power BI, Power Platform, Copilot and other Microsoft capabilities.

Our approach spans the Microsoft Dynamics ecosystem, including Dynamics 365, Business Central, Power Platform and Dataverse.

We start with the business processes behind your CRM rather than treating migration as a database-only exercise.

We assess both the data and custom application components that make each CRM environment unique.

We help organizations move toward Dynamics 365 online, Dataverse and Power Platform where appropriate.

We can help connect CRM with Business Central, Dynamics 365 Finance, Microsoft 365, Power BI and other business applications.
Are you running CRM 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016 or Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement?
If using Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement on-premises, is the environment version 9.0 or later?
Is the SQL environment compatible with the supported migration scenario?
Are there unsupported plugins, workflows, JavaScript or other custom components?
Have changes been made directly to the CRM database?
What customer, sales and service information needs to migrate?
Which applications depend on the existing CRM?
Which legacy reports need to be recreated or replaced?
Does the future environment require Sales, Customer Service, Field Service, Power Apps or a combination?
Microsoft Dynamics CRM is the historical product family that evolved into Dynamics 365. Modern customer engagement applications include products such as Dynamics 365 Sales, Dynamics 365 Customer Service and Dynamics 365 Field Service, which use Microsoft Dataverse and Power Apps model-driven app architecture.
It depends on the version.
Microsoft's current on-premises-to-online migration program supports Dynamics CRM / Dynamics 365 on-premises version 9.0 or later, subject to eligibility and technical requirements.
Older CRM versions require a separate assessment and may need an intermediate upgrade, reimplementation or another modernization approach.
Do not assume a direct migration path based solely on the product name. Dynamics CRM 2016 has reached end of extended support, and Microsoft's current on-premises-to-online migration program specifies version 9.0 or later as the source requirement.
The appropriate route should therefore be established through a technical assessment.
It should not be marketed as a direct supported cloud migration. Older CRM environments need to be assessed for upgradeability, data migration and target architecture before selecting a modernization path.
The answer depends on the source environment and intended migration method. Older versions are outside the current version 9.0+ on-premises-to-online migration requirement, so a direct migration should not be promised without an assessment.
Microsoft documents upgrade paths between supported Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement on-premises releases. However, the exact starting version and update level determine which upgrade is supported.
Customizations must be assessed before migration. Microsoft specifically notes that unsupported customizations or SQL Server-level changes may need to be fixed or mitigated before an on-premises-to-online migration.
Data migration depends on the source version, migration route, target architecture and data requirements. Customer, sales, service and custom data should be assessed individually rather than assuming every historical record will automatically transfer.
For supported Dynamics CRM / Dynamics 365 on-premises environments, Microsoft's migration guidance covers migration to Dynamics 365 online and Microsoft Dataverse.
There isn't one single replacement. Depending on the business requirement, modernization may involve:
Dynamics 365 Sales | Dynamics 365 Customer Service | Dynamics 365 Field Service | Dataverse | Power Apps
Microsoft's current lifecycle information lists Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement Apps version 9.x on-premises with mainstream support through January 2029 and extended support through January 2031.
However, organizations should evaluate their specific version, deployment and integration requirements rather than treating “supported” as equivalent to “no need to modernize.”
